Message Since there were no volunteers to lead the 3rd Saturday ride because most of the club is going to Appomattox, I will be at the Texaco station at 8 if anyone wants to ride (members or non-members). I didn't want to volunteer because I do not have a CB, but if no one else from the club shows up, I will lead a ride somewhere. It'll be an adventure! Anyone who is not going on the Appomattox ride who wishes to lead and has lead before is welcome to do so. Anyone else from the club who wants to meet up, or knows of a good route, please let me know. I could use the help.

Thanks

Message Before going on-line I talked to ruth about riding this weekend, either doing the sat. ride or our own ride. So we'll meet you there. The last time the ride left at 9:30; people arrived earlier and headed to starbucks and mcdonalds for food and coffee. I'd prefer to do that, if it's not too late a departure time for you; just let me know. Otherwise we'll meet earlier.

And i had an idea for a ride that i haven't done in a while... out to 211 (via backroads or direct route) up and over, across skyline, and to gw national forest to fort valley road, and maybe back in on 55 from front royal. There's a good lunch stop on 211 in sperryville. Don't have to do this route. IT's just an idea. And i don't have a cb either.

Message Wandee, be prepared to cancel ride due to lousy weather. You can access weather.com (the Weather Channel) the night before and make a decision (I usually check the weather in a triangle of three zip codes for Charlottesville, Springfield, and Front Royal) to get a feel for what weather may move inot the region over the next 24 hours.

The alternative is to get up early Saturday and look out the window and cancel at the last minute.

Either way, make sure you post a note letting folks know if the ride is on or off. If the weather is clear, I may opt to ride with you, although I must keep the bike at 55 mph and below for the break-in period. Last I heard, there is likely to be rain Saturday morning, gradual clearing and a nice Sunday. That was at least 24 hours ago, which means it no longer is a valid report.

Regards,
Ed

Message Hey, I'm there. I couldn't make the Appomattox ride, so this great. I'll be there at 8:00, and I'm also interested in grabbing some breakfast of some sort.

Cool! Wandee, thanks for taking the initiative.

Message Mary Ann,

The route to 211 sounds great. Make sure you bring it with you. I've been wanting to take 211 for quite some time now. I think this weekend will be pretty good.

The weather looks like it will be foggy in the morning with possible drizzle, but clearing up by noon.

Message Wandee, you have yourself arriving at 8:00 a.m.--what time do you plan to depart. Also, will you be tracking weather? It's still a bit early--I usually don't trust the weather guessers until the night before a ride and even then I'm often somewhat wary. I usually go by the chance of precipitation--30%, 40%, etc. You've got the helm so let us know your plans--

Place of departure--Texaco Station--is this at the Colonnade? It's been a while so I just want to make sure.

Time of actual departure?

Thanks for taking the lead!!

Message There's no Texaco station there, I discovered when I went on the April saturday ride. I think it's a Shell at that Union whatever it's called shopping center. Just confirm the departure time... coming from downtown, 9 or 9:30 would make my life a little easier.

Message The Union Mill Texaco station at the Colonnade Shopping Center is located at 5784 Union Mill Rd, Clifton, VA 20124-1088, 703-802-1170. Our Saturday morning rally point is in the shopping center parking lot directly across the perimeter road in front of the Texaco station.

Message Ok, everybody, listen up.

I'm going to keep an eye on the weather. It doesn't look bad, but if the weather forecast changes, I'll cancel late in the evening on Friday. Check the web page when you get up. Or you can call me in the morning to make sure. My number is on the member's page.

Departure time is at 9:30 from the Colonade with the Texaco. There is a Texaco station there. Please get the directions from the website. I will get there around 8am and have breakfast. If anyone wants to meet me for breakfast, feel free. We will try Mary Ann's 211 route. I've always wanted to try 211 in the mountains and I think it will be good.

Message There is a Shell station on the corner of Union Mill and 29.
The Texaco station is part of the Colonnade Shoping Plaza parking lot. There is a KFC right next to it.

Message We discussed departure times at a recent meeting, and decided not to change them. So please, for scheduled rides (as opposed to pick-up rides), let's not change the times without a reason. Hope to see you all Saturday.

Message Wandee, weather for Saturday appears to be improving slowly--only 10-20% chance of rain most of the day--not bad. If I can make it, I'll meet you at the Colonnade and will be sure to be there on time.

Regards.

Message ALL-
Shell bought out Texaco and is slowly converting most Texaco's to Shells.

The Texaco at the Colonaide is no longer red and white but the yellow and white Shell. Yep!! That makes two shells within a couple of blocks - one at the Colonaide and one at the corner of rte 29. Just so there's no confusion, you will probably meet at the Texaco that is now a Shell in the Colonaide Shopping Center.

Message Boy. this meeting point thing is really confusing me, maybe because I don't know the Northern Virgina area. Last month I don't recall seeing a kfc anywhere, but instead a starbucks and mcdonalds. And it was that shell station and that lot where people appeared. Also, I know ruth and I tried to follow the directions I printed off of the website and they didn't really work for us. We just kind of sniffed our way to this shopping plaza and this gas station. So, it appears that there's another station (not the one I was in last month) and a kfc near it that is the actual meeting place, correct?

Message Yes it seems that Texacos are becoming Shell stations. Yes there is a Starbucks and a MacDonalds in the strip mall at the colonnade. There is also a Giant and a Blockbuster video.

Message Mary Ann-- Just show up where we met last time over there and you'll be fine. We met in the parking lot next to the station, which is in between the two stations in question. Wandee has promised to wear a big pink bunny suit, so he'll be hard to miss.

Message Since I'm not going on the Appomattox ride, I'm planning to be there and grab breakfest at McDonald's. Although I have a CB radio, there only helpful if the leader also has one. But if we get lost, my GPS will find a way out.

Hope to see Ed, there will his new Haley in the daylight. -MPM

Message Heh Wandee... bad news... I have to cancel. I was wishfully thinking this cold I caught would be gone by Saturday. It's not gone yet tonight, and I don't anticipate any miracles between now and tomorrow morning. I'm expecting another bad night of coughing. If you go, have a great ride! I'm selling my yamaha fzr600. If you're interested in it let me know and I"ll give you the details on it. After riding the hawk more lately I've decided its riding position is a lot more comfortable for me than the real forward position of the fzr. See ya'll next time. Mary Ann
