Message | I would like to take time to thank everyone in PARR who contributed to the Law Ride Charity Run yesterday. It was a success despite all odds. And although we will contribute the lowest donation to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) in PARR history (about $550 by early estimates), never have those dollars been more hard earned. As many may know, this run is not cancelled unless there is a direct danger to the riders such as an active electrical storm in progress, high winds, etc.
Because the riders come from all over the U.S., we will not cancel the run for rain. Yesterday, we had both all-day rain and riders who came in from as far away as California (they rented motorcycles locally). We also had riders from a number of other states including Michigan, Missouri, and Florida (who did ride the entire distance). At the beginning of the run, many police riders had ridden a total of 1600 to 2000 miles during the previous two days.
The following PARR persons participated yesterday (listed alphabetically). My sincerest apologies if I overlooked someone:
Matt Alvin Phyllis Kotwicki Ken Marty Mel McPherson Mike Mrozek Joe Peralta Ron Perlik Doug and Cindy Richmond Dave Robinson Michael Segovia Al Tennant and Marie Bill Warden Ralph Warren
Very special thanks are due to Matt Alvin, Al Tennant and Marie, and Doug and Cindy Richmond who rode the route and operated the checkpoints during the incessant rain. I support you guys getting a by for the 1 June PARR Poker Run. Should you want to work the run (which ends in North Stafford), I will give you first pick of positions.
Further thanks are also due to Kimberly Thurlow and Joe Peralta for garnering a number of excellent prizes that made for an impressive series of awards – surpassing our previous events. This was especially gratifying as the winners were truly persons who showed up to support us. Thanks as always to Jack Moar for his usual excellence in printing our route sheets and giving us that great polished appearance and to Nelson McWhorter for pre-riding and critiquing the route.
Lastly, there is one more person deserving of special recognition - Ron Perlik. Although his run preparation efforts are unknown to the members except me, he brought us from our recent management style into 2003 with hard work and a friendly management style – as great job from a new PARR Vice President.
