Message I'm in the process of planning a SaddleSore 1000 (1000 miles in 24 hours). The ride will take place the weekend of February 15-16 to take advantage of the full moon. This route will be entirely in Virginia, hitting the four extreme corners. I would welcome company or the advice of anyone else who has done a ride like this.

Message Hey Ron. I would be willing to do an IronButt ride in the summer but not this time of year. If you do this be very careful, you are only going to have about 10 hours of daylight, you might run into snow, ice or below freezing temps and you will be riding on unfamiliar roads. RIDE SAFE.

Message I did the 1,000 day in 21 hours 5 years ago. Tim Morrow (a former PARR member) and myself did it together. It took careful planning. Our destination was Canada and back using only the interstates. We did it in May and were fortunate to have had nice weather except for the last 5 miles where it rained cats and dogs. We also hit heavy fog in the mountains at night time which slowed us down for about 1/2 hour. We also hit road construction and took a wrong exit that killed a 1/2 hour. We rode in 200 mile segments which is what my bike needed to prevent running out of gas. We allowed ourselves only short snack breaks and one dinner break at the 750 mile mark. We also took a 1/2 hour break once we got across the Canadanian border. It was fun and neither of us felt any fatigue (I guess because of the challenge). But I don't think I'd ever do it again.

Message Thanks to those who have expressed interest in doing this ride with me. I reluctantly chose February because of the anticipated heavy ride schedule in the summer. If it's a no go, I'll be looking at mid-June or mid-July. Will keep you posted.

Message I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid.
SaddleSore1000 has been cancelled this weekend due to forcasted bad weather. Next date will be June 14 or July 12.
