Topic Nomination for PARR Officers
Author Ralph Warren
Date Created 10/10/2002 8:26:30 AM
Message PARR is asking for nominations for the following offices....

If you have a person(s) you would like to nominate for the below offices please reply to this PARR Talk subject.

All Elected offices are filled at an annual election held each November or upon the occurrence of a vacancy. Elections are by secret ballot and are presided over by the President. Elected officers serve for one year and assume office on the first day of the following January. The offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer cannot be held for more than two consecutive terms by the same person. No two elected offices can be held at the same time by the same person.

Elected officers of PARR are members in good standing of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) which charters PARR. PARR elected officials and their primary duties are:

A. President
The President administers club policies and oversees all elected and appointed officers. The President presides over PARR meetings, both of the general membership and of the club officers (termed the Executive Board).

B. Vice President
The Vice President assists the President in overseeing club activities, presides at meetings not attended by the President, and performs other duties as assigned by the President. The Vice President succeeds to the Presidency if the President resigns or is unable to perform his/her duties.

C. Secretary
The Secretary's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: recording and reporting the minutes of all club meetings; maintaining a current list of club members' names, addresses, and phone numbers; handling general correspondence; and any other responsibilities assigned by the President.

D. Treasurer
The Treasurer's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, entrustment with the receipt, care, and disbursement of all club funds. The Treasurer keeps proper records of all membership dues, reports club financial activities at each meeting and performs other responsibilities as assigned by the President.

E. Road Captain
The Road Captain's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: overseeing all club riding activities; ensuring all standing and perspective members are instructed in club riding rules and formations; and performing other responsibilities as assigned by the President. The Road Captain's authorities may be delegated, by the Road Captain, as necessary.

F. Sergeant-at-Arms
The Sergeant-at-Arms' responsibilities include, but are not limited to preserving order at all meetings and any other responsibilities as assigned by the President.

Message In addition to the elected officers, PARR's AMA positions of Insurance Communications officer (ICO), AMA Legislative Officer, and AMA/PARR Referee will need to be filled for 2003. These are appointed positions by the PARR President in 2003 and the persons filling them must be AMA members.

Message I nominate Lem Hooper for a second term as President.
I nominate Phyllis Kotwicki as Vice-President
I nominate Ron Perlik as Road Captain.
(Has Ed and Jeff been in two years? If not I nominate them for another term. If they have been in for two years, I nominate them to take the other's position.
I also nominate John Steinberger for another year as S-at-arms.

I can't be an officer next year because of my work schedule but I would be glad to serve in another capacity (not requiring regular ride or meeting attendance).

Message Lem H. - President
Ed N. Vice President
Phyllis K. Treasurer
Kimberly - Secretary
Ron P. & Nelson M. - Road Captains
John S. - Sargent at Arms

Mike - in response to your question - Ed & Jeff have both served 2 consecutive years in their respective positions. Ed expressed an interest in VP & I expressed an interest in Treasurer since, as an accountant, that's right up my alley.

Message Not sure if it matters, but at the last business meeting, there were several folks who expressed interest in new positions. Also, Jeff Jordan and I are no longer eligible to remain in our current positions due to term limits.

Phyliss Kotwicki expressed interest in running for Treasurer. Hmmm, not surprising for a CPA, right? I expressed interest in running for VP and/or Sgt at Arms.

Lem is in his first year of a two year term as President, but suggested that he wouldn't object if someone else stepped up to the plate to run for office.

I'd like to remain an officer, but I'll leave it up to the membership to decide my fate!!

Hope that helps a bit.

Message Since there needs to be 2 Road Captains (it's to big a job for just one person), I also want to add to my list of nominations: Nelson McWhorter and Ron Perlik as Road Captains. Both are excellent choices.

Message On multiple Road Captains . . . we'll need one winner only. We'll run into Constitutional problems if we actually have two RCs. One person must have the office. The RC can name "Lieutenants" to do whatever is necessary. But the RC is the ONE voice to the Pres/VP on riding matters and the THE SINGLE person in charge on a run - even if the Pres/VP are present. In that circumstance, the RC is the officer-in-charge for PARR. Dick

Message President: Ron Perlik. Ron has shown leadership ability, great enthusiasm for riding, and is unfailingly supportive and upbeat. He is a “people person” and has the greatest smile! Ron is an accomplished and experienced rider, both on and off-road. He is a lifetime member of AMA and has been an active member of the Red Riders Club in Manassas, as well as other clubs. Ron has rarely missed a ride and has filled in the gaps when scheduled PARR rides had neither destinations nor leaders. Having run his own landscaping business, Ron also understands administrative tasks. He is articulate, both before a group and on paper. His verbal skills were honed during his career as a radio Dee Jay. Ron, arborist, initiated and led PARR’s “Big Tree” rides this year. Ron’s wife Barbara, also a PARR member, is an avid rider, opting for pillion.

Vice President: Ed Naidamast. Ed, aka Mr. Safety and Deerslayer, just completed two years as Secretary. He rarely missed a meeting and only missed rides when family responsibilities intervened. He is knowledgeable about PARR events, procedures and riding. He has also demonstrated his interest and concern with motorcycle safety through his numerous “Mr. Safety” articles. An accomplished writer and speaker, Ed has provided many a PARR rider with safety tips and advice all towards the goal of stayin’ alive. Ed is one of PARR’s most enthusiastic supporters.

Secretary: Danny Martin. Danny, also a lifetime AMA member, has been riding since he learned to walk. He rarely missed either a PARR ride or a meeting. He was always responded to any call for volunteers and was available as an ad hoc mechanic and riding instructor. A professional Webmaster, Danny has donated his skills and talent to the PARR Web. Danny’s leadership ability are evident from his 20-year Navy career. Danny also belongs to the BMW Club of Washington.

Treasurer: Phyllis Kotwicki. Phyllis is an account and wants the job. These criteria make her more qualified than most any Treasurer nominee in history. Need we say more???

Sergeant-at-Arms: Matt Alvin. Self-defense instructor. Kick-boxer competitor and instructor. The leader of both boys and girls (men and women, too?) at the JCC as fitness specialist, Matt is an obvious choice for this position. Beyond that, he provides PARR with the best meeting place it has ever had. Matt and his wife Laurie ride 2-up on his new Harley. Matt is on the road with PARR as often as his job allows.

Road Captains: Nelson McWhorter; Ralph Warren. Nelson has already successfully served one term, several years ago, as PARR Road Captain. He has led many rides and provided PARR with a memorable overnight at Deep Creek Lake. Nelson has proven his skills and ability as Road Captain. Ralph rarely missed a PARR Ride in 2 years, maybe a record! He is, like Nelson, a confident, accomplished and experienced rider. His mellow CB voice and GPS have helped guide PARR riders over many miles.
