It's a 1981 Maxim 650 which stopped running after i bought it used and took a trip to Delmarva. Spent $830 for it from a college grad last summer in suburban maryland. I did not know a plug could not be tightened (smelled exhaust in my face while riding. September 2002 was last i rode it, I'm gentle older rider without much cash (live on a very small disability check). Was i taken in by my own zeal to get a quick chep ride and should i listen to friends that tell me just get a quick sale? I went to the trouble of insuring it and getting at least a temp tag (failed imspection over tires) and still got the temp tag on it here at the apartment in Hyattsville. Really dissillusioned. Sorry to whine, but can you help? I need a repair donation or advice in a private shop or somewhere quite cheap commercially. I know, dream on. truly yours, Bob kosta 5034 38th Avenue #13 Hyattsville MD 20782
Bob, I hope another PARR member or visitor can suggest a reliable repair shop nearby. I'm only familiar with BMW "repairs" but have a suggestion.
Call local High Schools, Trade Schools, Junior Colleges which may offer engine repair/overall course or automotive, ATV, motorcycle repair. If you locate one, offer your bike as unit to be worked on by the students. You may pay nothing to have your bike repaired in this manner and only have to "wait" for it's return.
My personal view is that $830.00 for a 20yr plus old bike is rather pricy IMHO.
Hope this helps and you get some other advise. - mpm
