Message I just spoke with Glenn's sister Phyllis Flye. Unfortunately news about Glenn is true. Randy is in the hospital with some serious injuries waist down - pelvis, legs. Not sure of details. She is alert and talking. She remembers the accident and says Glenn saved her life. More details on that to come too.
Phyllis says there will be memorial service. Not sure when. As I find out, I'll let you all know.
I find it hard to breathe right now.
Glenn's kids holding up.

Message My husband and I have known Glenn for 11 years and were shocked and saddened to read this morning's W. Post account of the accident. We've shared many of life's experiences with Glenn through the years (both on and off our motorcycles.) Glenn introduced us to some of his PARR friends and the PARR website is one of the first places we went to this morning after reading the Post. We appreciate the information posted earlier about Randi and hope that you will keep us all updated about any arrangements and services through these messages. Thank you.

Message Ralph and Lynn,
Thank you for the news about Glenn and Randi. I have mixed feelings right now after learning this. Glenn was one of the first members to welcome me into PARR and I and others have enjoyed their company and friendship on many rides.

I would welcome more information on where to send a Sympanthy card to their family members and possibly attend the funeral services.

I'm sure we wish Randi a speedy recovery and our love and care during this difficult time. I'm not a regular church goer, but will say a prayer at this time for the Braswell family.

This is indeed a sad time for PARR. God Bless - Mike

Message We are in shock because of this horrible news. Kim and I thought the world of Glenn,he was one of the nicest and most down to earth people that we have ever met. He treated everyone with respect, had a great sense of humor and was a fun guy to hang around with. We will miss him very much.
Our thoughts and prayers go to Randi for a speedy recovery and our deepest sympathy goes out to their families.

Message Gail and I are still in disbelief over the news of Glenn's death and of Randi's injuries. There is little we can add to what other PARR persons have all ready said of their grief and loss. Glenn was one of the most remarkable and friendliest people we have ever met and the world (and PARR) will never be the same without him. Our deepest sympathies go out to Randi and to both families.

Message Bob and I are heartbroken and in total shock about Glenn and Randi. Two of the most beautiful and loving people we've known. When I told Glenn that I thought Randi was beautiful, he said "I think she is beautiful too and I love her." But he only told Randi that I thought she was beautiful, so I want her to know what he told others. When Bob told him about his Eldiweiss trip, Glenn immediately decided that that was where he wanted to take his lovely Randi on their honeymoon! And they went. I'm so glad she will have such wonderful memories.
The Wash. Post article about the accident is sketchy and incomplete. I don't know if they will print more after the investigation; I hope so, but doubt it.
I spent the day on the phone calling PARR Members, Glenn's law firm here in Alexandria, VA and the hospital. I also called our other motorcycle clubs and asked they put something in their newsletters so others that know Randi can give her the love and support she is going to need FOR A LONG TIME TO COME.
I have her home address and the hospital address but hesitate to publish them, so if any Member wants, give me a call. She can't have visitors while in ICU, but I do hope everyone will write her and let her know we care plus anything else they want to do for her or the family.
If anyone finds out that she has been moved out of ICU or anything about the arrangements for Glenn, please post it.
Live every day to the fullest friends, like Glenn did, and let your friends, new and old, know you love them, like Glenn did.
Nancy

Message Not much more I can add, apart from my shock, disbelief, and the grief I feel for Glenn's family, Randi, and the loss of a good friend. When I approached Glenn some time back about some legal work, he didn't hesitate to respond to my e-mail. His first comment was to congratulate me for going as far as I had in life without the need for an attorney. I know he will be missed by all who knew him. His loss is a great tragedy.

Message Randi's in Suburban Hosp. I just talked to her. She shows great strength. She can take visitors just 5 min. at a time. She's on meds for her injuries, which she says are all fixable. Apparently the collision was head on, with Glenn taking the impact which she says saved her life. And, thank God that she is living and will be well again. I think we can all learn from Randi to live life to its fullest, for every moment is precious.

Message Glenn and Randi were hit by a car that came accross the center line. The driver was a 17 year old girl. They were only going about 35 mph...Randi injuries are from the waist down. Glenn scurved in such away so Randi would take less of an impact. Saving her life and taking his...
Just like Glenn to do something like that....

This if not an offical account but believed it to be somewhat true.

June 26, 2003
A Potomac man died Wednesday evening after a car struck the motorcycle he was riding on Seven Locks Road near Charleston Drive in Bethesda.

According to Montgomery County Police, Glenn Braswell, 58, was riding a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle south on Seven Locks Road at about 5:15 p.m. with Randi Lynn Cohen, 58, also of Potomac, as a passenger.

Katherine Gorman, 17, of Chevy Chase, was driving a 2002 Ford Escape north on Seven Locks, and crossed the center line. Braswell attempted to avoid a collision by driving onto the shoulder, but was unable to, police said.

Braswell was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Cohen was transported to a local hospital with what appears to be life-threatening injuries, police said.

Gorman was not injured in the crash. Officer Joyce Utter, a Montgomery County Police spokeswoman, said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash. She did not know why Gorman crossed the center line. The investigation is continuing.

Message Just a little update on arrangements being made for Glenn...from Margo (Randi's daughter). Glenn will be cremated this Tuesday or Wednesday morning in Rocky Mt., North Carolina. His family will not be having a memorial service...only a very small gathering at gravesite. There will be information about this in the Metro section of the Wash. Post this week. Check daily as they did not know which day it would show up. Contribution information, I believe, will be in that information. No other addresses available at this time.
Randi is in Suburban Hospital - (301) 896-3100 Rm 2101 and is able to speak with people. She will only be there another 1-3 days before being transferred to another hospital for physical therapy. I asked if okay to send flowers at this time and Margo said please not to as the room is already filled with flowers and she will be moving. So...I thought it might be nice if PARR could send a fruit basket after she gets settled in next place. I will be checking with Margo in another day or two about the name of the new hospital. Randi's spirits are good considering...

Message You'll have to forgive me, but I remain numb from the shock
at the loss of a friend to all who knew him. This kind
of tragedy is something I read about in newspapers--it isn't
supposed to happen to a personal friend.

To BJ and Lynn, thanks for posting the details and keeping
us informed about arrangements.

Beyond the fruit basket that was suggested, might I add
an additional thought? Perhaps we can inquire about a
charity that Glenn was particularly fond of--be it a museum,
zoo, research, or medical association--and perhaps we can
make a contribution in his memory. Beyond the fruit basket
a PARR contribution to a charitable organization is the gift
that will keep on giving--there is no telling what seed we
may plant with our gift.

Message I can only echo the well said thoughts of the others. I think of my own daughter, who is 17 and, I think, drives relatively well, but has probably crossed the centerline with no explanation. Now she wants to learn to ride a bike. I fear the sense of responsibility should she get hurt or worse. This other young lady probably dropped a cigarette or a soda in her lap or some such thing. Next thing you know one of our friends was killed.

I think Glenn would want us to enjoy each day as it it given to us. He sure seemed to do so.

Message I’ve known Glenn for over ten years. I moved to Washington to work for him. He was a colleague, a friend and a truly remarkable person. I can vividly remember the lunch at which Glenn and I first discussed taking the MSF course at NOVA. We rode to Key West together, rode Rolling Thunder and rented bikes in Tampa. I last spoke with Glenn on Wednesday, June 25 in the early afternoon. He was heading to Pennsylvania with Randi to look at a line of RV’s for his dealership. The weather forecast was great - so they decided to take advantage of it and ride their bike. Glenn and I were to talk on Friday regarding legal work he was doing for me......

It is very difficult to accept that he has been taken, and by such a seemingly stupid turn of events. Glenn always saw the side of the glass that was full. He was always able lighten up a group, enjoy the moment and laugh. His presence was larger than most – which is why I think his loss is so apparent. I agree with those who have said Glenn would have wanted people to enjoy each day. My wife and I spent Sunday on our bike, retracing some of the routes we had traveled with Glenn. I think I saw him in my rearview mirror once or twice.....

Respectfully – Mark Wygonik

Message Friends ~ This is Kristan Braswell, Glenn's daughter. I cam across this link while checking my father's e-mails. It was wonderful reading all of the kind words about my father, and I know he was well loved in this group. To answer some of the questions posed in the replies:

1. The memorial will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd in Rocky Mount, NC. The arangements are made through Wheeler & Woodlief (252-451-8800). There is a family plot where both of his parents rest.
We are not a religous family, so instead we plan to let everyone say a few words or share personal stories directly at the site. The memorial is open to everyone, but we understand the timing and location may prove to be difficult for some.

2. Instead of flowers we are asking for donations to the Ronald McDonald House or a charity of your choice.

3. I have been told the full accident report may not be available for a few months, but I will forward the information when available.

If anyone needs to reach me, my e-mail address is:
kristanashley@yahoo.com

Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers,
Kristan A. Braswell

Message I visited Randi in Suburban tonight. The lady at the information desk has already memorized Randi's room number due to the high volume of calls and visits.

I took her a couple relaxing books to read when the time is right. Also, a few chocolates to boost her morale. She is still as beautiful as ever. And, I was even able to generate one of her heart-warming laughs upon seriously advising her that narcotics are constipating. Randi is in good spirits and should recover well.

Message I bought another bike to add to my collection today, the same day I heard about Glenn. As I started to ride out of Virginia across DC and into Maryland, I said to myself inside my helmet, "This one's for you, Glenn, a Summer evening's ride home." As I pulled into my own street I repeated to myself, "This one's for you, Glenn, a Summer evening's ride home. I hope you like your new home."

Message Hey Everyone,

I didn't know Glenn that well, but I get upset when I hear about a fellow rider(s) being hurt or killed. I know getting upset doesn't help, so I thought I'd focus my energy on an idea.

Someone mentioned something about making donations to a favorite charity of Glenn's. Maybe PARR can hold a ride in honor of Glenn and make it a charity ride at the same time. What better way to honor the memory of those fallen than by carrying on with the lifestyle they loved so much? Any other ideas Ralph, anyone else?

And I haven't forgotten Randi either. I hope she recovers quickly and without great pain.

Sincerely,
Wandee Kirkland
